Muzhappilangad beach - Drive-in-beach - Experience of a lifetime

It was the month of Jan 12 and i was in Kerala along with my family for a short visit during the 26th Jan holiday. On a sunny lazy day in the morning the family decided to go for an outing. But the place was not decided. Some suggestions came that why can't we go for a beach as we always go for heritage and architectural sites and the suggestion came to be Muzhappilangad beach.I have heard about this beach a lot but what lies there needs to be seen when we reach there. We booked a taxi and there we were travelling towards the beach.

This beach is located parallel to NH 17 highway which is between Kannur and Thalassery. This is said to be one of the best drive in beach in India and in Asia.We reached the place at around 3.00 pm in the noon and there we see the vast beach with the shores inviting the vehicles to run through it for a ride of their lifetime. The beach is as long as 5 km in length and it allows the tourist for a ride in the beach up to a stretch of 4 km.On the shores of the beach are big black rocks which protects the seashores from the strong wind currents of the sea.

We thought of taking a ride first and then strolling on the sea shore for some time.I along with my family went for a ride through the beach for a full stretch splashing water and driving through the sea shores as if we have won a trophy and celebrating the same.I have seen images of vehicles splashing water in the beach and here i am doing the same in the beach. We ended our drive with the vehicle full of splashed water and we ending up in a clump of coconut trees. It was an awesome experience of my lifetime.

We were witness to some very good vehicle stunts on the beach which some of the tourists were displaying with some of the vehicles almost covered with mud and sand after the stunt. The other thing which took off my eyes from the rest of the crowd was some boys playing football in the beach before the sunset. This set the stage for seeing the sunset post the match was over.

The next thing was the sunset and some of my friends have told that the sunset with the vehicles in the drive in beach is must watch and i waited for almost walking in the beach for one hour for the sunset to happen.
Running in the Muzhappilangad Beach
In the meantime me and my son played in the beach like doing a running race in the sandy beach. It was not easy for me since i was not in the habit of running in the beach for a long time. But by the end i was any way the winner.

Soon the sun was taking turns for the sunset and i was ready with my camera to take the sunset at this beach.I took this in some time intervals and once i had completed this i was very happy since this was one of the shoots which i did with a lot of patience on my side waiting for the right piece of elements to come in the frame.Check my earlier blog on this at http://throughmylens-sujith.blogspot.in/2012/02/sunset-at-muzhappilangad-beach.html
Sunset at Muzhappilangad Beach
The time was almost 6.00 pm and it was slightly becoming dark.We ended our tour and started back to our home. One of the best experiences in a beach with the drive-in privilege with no extra cost was what we got back as memories from this awesome ride.

Its always memories when we are in god's own country. We end up creating a memory when we are in Kerala and this was no different as we drove a car through a beach.
